Indole-3-carbinol (I-3-C) is a phytonutrient found in Brassica vegetables such as broccoli, kale and cabbage, and is one of the main health-promoting compounds in these foods. Numerous studies using I-3-C to modify the balance of enzymes responsible for estrogen metabolism have had phenomenal success, with this molecule proving capable of reducing the synthesis of “bad” estrogens and increasing the synthesis of “good” estrogens. Human studies on women taking I-3-C have demonstrated a positive change in estrogen metabolism; I-3-C has been shown to protect against estrogen dominance. Estrogen dominance has been associated with fibroids, breast strain, premenstrual syndrome, endometriosis and other women’s health problems.
Women concerned about safer estrogen metabolism, those with a family history or increased risk of estrogen-dependent cancer, or those with a higher ratio of bad to good estrogens may benefit from this product. I-3-C may also be beneficial for people who wish to reap some of the benefits of Brassica vegetables, but find it difficult to eat them raw.
