Sodium lactate, when in granular form, is a sodium salt of lactic acid produced by the fermentation of sugars. Used as an additive in soap making, it acts as a mould-release agent, reduces drying time and gives a perfectly smooth finish.
Usage: For 450 grams of oil/butter, dissolve about 1 teaspoon of sodium lactate in water before adding sodium hydroxide.
