It was used to purify temples as well as the baths of lepers. But be careful not to confuse prostrate hyssop with \u201ccommon\u201d hyssop, also known as medicinal hyssop (Hyssopus officinalis ssp. officinalis), which is rich in the neurotoxic and abortifacient compound pinocamphone and must be used with great caution.<\/p>\n

The essential oil of prostrate hyssop (Hyssopus officinalis var. decumbens, also known simply as Hyssopus decumbens), on the other hand, is a non-toxic compound. It consists mainly of linalool (43%), with a small amount of 1,8-cineole (14%) and trace amounts of lactones.
